I’m definitely the dabbler. But that’s also how I work when I have unlimited studio time. Then I’ll just go from task to task, painting to painting, working on each thing for a bit. I’m sure it’s not the most efficient way to do things, but it works for my brain. And I do eventually get things done.

I’m sure it allows you to spend more time on your art than if you forced yourself to focus on one thing, maybe get bored and stop earlier. Being fluid, listening to yourself, working intuitively is so important.

For me, I do really need to work on one piece at a time. The last time I tried to make two sculptures at once, I ended up being a little mindless about the “second” piece and went way too far one direction that wasn’t right!

The physical work sees so tied to what I’m working through personally that that feels important. But with all of my other creative pursuits I also like to bounce around.

Yeah I do think it helps my brain to work like this. Although sometimes maybe I should have a firmer hand and force myself to finish something. A made up deadline helps.

There’s nothing more motivating than a deadline, that’s for sure.
