A creative habit is like reading a good book. We’re not in it to see how it turns out in the end. It’s more about marinating in an environment.
This past fall, I’ve hit a stride artmaking. The energy around the Steps Repeat sculpture has allowed me to get into a creative rhythm and routine. I’m motivated by the excitement I’m holding onto, of seeing the work come to life, and the creative freedom (near whimsy?) I’ve allowed into this piece.
At this point, I almost need to get sick of it so I can step away. (The inevitable “I’ve been staring at this so long I’ve lost all objectivity, and don’t even know if I like it anymore” has ensued.) The emotion entangled with this piece is more in its process than its final form. I believe I’ll soon be able to turn to its hefty body and say, thanks for all the lessons, and buh-bye!

My website is updated!
I can’t help but regularly tweak on my website. It’s a compulsion really. This was a bit more of an overhaul. Take a look! » jilljacobssculpture.com
Change in newsletter cadence
At least for now, I’ve decided to change my newsletter cadence to once a month. I’m a transcendentalist at heart, on a quest to live deliberately. So I’ve decided to proceed more slowly through this digital space.
This community is so essential to my process that I don’t at all want to disconnect from that. Remember, I’m more than happy to answer questions or have artsy convos using Substack’s Chat feature.
Recent shows I’ve attended
Gallery 263 and Mother Brook Arts both put on great events this month (of which I fully forgot to take photos.) But here are some of the artists I met and spoke with, and their fabulous work: Julia Gould, Lynne Johnson, Matthew Napoli, and Matthias Lupri.
I’m making a pact with myself to fight the dreariness of Winter by going to as many shows, galleries, museums and studio visits as my little introverted self will allow. (What are you going to do to help make this Winter more enjoyable?)

Purchases this fall, thanks to YOU!
Have I told you today how awesome you are? Your support and presence bring me so much joy and motivation. Thank you for being here.
To my paying subscribers: you contribute so greatly to helping maintain my metalworking equipment. This autumn, I’ve needed to purchase a new graphite sheet for my belt sander and more sanding belts (very essential to my process). Thankyouthankyouthankyou <3
